Tell Us Once
The Tell Us Once service lets you report a death to most government organisations in a single step.
Documents you’ll need:
- National Insurance number.
- Passport number.
- Driving licence number.
- Vehicle registration document (V5).
- Blue Badge (if held).
You’ll also need:
- Details of any benefits received.
- Details of public sector or armed forces pensions, such as:
- Civil Service Pension.
- NHS Pension Scheme.
- Armed Forces Pension Scheme.
- Pension schemes for NHS staff, teachers, police, and firefighters in Scotland.
Organisations notified by Tell Us Once:
- Local Council – to cancel Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Blue Badge, and electoral register entry.
- Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) – to cancel benefits.
- HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) – for personal tax.
- Passport Office – to cancel a British passport.
- DVLA – to cancel a driving licence and update vehicle records.
- Veterans UK – to stop Armed Forces Compensation payments.
