Interment of Ashes

An interment of ashes can be held at a local cemetery or on private land. You can, if you wish, hold a service prior in a church or venue of your choosing before the interment.

You do not need to involve a Funeral Director for an interment of ashes, but if you wish for our assistance we will be honoured to assist.

Below are details of the procedure:

Cemetery

  • Contact the local council, arrange a date and time.
  • You are required to sign the application form which is issued by the local council or cemetery owner.
  • You will need to give the Certificate of Cremation to the cemetery owner.
  • Ashes can be interred in a family lair.
  • If you do not have an existing lair, you will need to purchase a new lair.
  • The council will open the lair on the chosen day.
  • Once the Ashes have been interred you may wish to add your loved ones name to the existing stone or erect a new stone.

Private land

  • Interment of ashes on private land is legal as long as you have the landowner’s permission.
  • You will have to arrange with the land owner to open the ground for the interment.
